CHANDIGARH, JAN 19 : Two D.A.V. College, Sector 10, Chandigarh sportspersons have brought laurels to the Panjab University and the country by excelling in football and shooting.
Chandigarh born 6’6″ tall goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu became the second Indian after the legendary Mohammed Salim to represent a 1st Team of a Top Division European Club. Gurpreet graduated from D.A.V College in 2013-14.
On the evening of January 18, while the football fans in India were busy witnessing another round of Barclays Premier League, an Indian goalkeeper went down in the history books. Interestingly Gurpreet became the first footballer in the post-independence era to play for a top side European club, as he made his debut for Norwegian side Stabæk Football Club in a friendly match, while the last footballer to do so was the legendary Mohammed Salim as he joined Celtic back in 1936.
Another D.A.V. College student and international rifle shooter Anjum Moudgil has been
selected for the award of Raksha Mantris Commendation Card by Directorate General NCC, Govt of India, Ministry of Defence, New Delhi.
Principal, D.A.V. College and PU Fellow Dr. B.C. Josan has congratulated and blessed the achievers.
