1 Sep : The Comprehensive Trauma Life Support Course, an educational event was inaugurated in a impressive ceremony at PGI Chandigarh by Prof SS Gill, Vice Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences. In his inaugural address he emphasized that such educational programmes should become a regular feature for acquiring knowledge and improving the performance of medical staff in the management of trauma cases.
Prof. SK Malhotra, the Organizing Secretary of this Trauma Course, in his welcome address introduced the national and international faculty. “Road traffic accidents represent only a fraction of the trauma spectrum and this CTLS Course would allow the delegates to gain comprehensive knowledge on all types of trauma”, said Prof .KK Gombar, President ITACCS, Chandigarh branch.
Dr.Michael JA Parr, Course Director gave a presentation on overview of the course. This was followed by lectures and hands-on training on Initial Assessment, Primary /Secondary Survey and Management. Various discussions were held on assessment and management of airway, hemorrhage, severe head injury, abdominal trauma and thoracic trauma. The workshops on Intraosseous infusion, Cricothyroidotomy, airway management was conducted by Dr. Gillian Bishop, Dr.Sashi Kumar, Dr. Samir Suri from Australia and Dr. Jeffrey M Berman(USA). The Indian faculty who were involved in imparting training skills included Dr.Manish Mehrotra, Dr.Balavenkat, Dr.Venkatarama, Dr.Debasish Roy and Dr. Ramakrishnan,
Prof. Fauzia Khan from Karachi, Pakistan and Prof. Leon Drobnik from Poland, who are present as international observers noted the proceedings, so as to make suggestions for standards of training and any improvement strategies for future programmes. Prof Jyotsna Wig, Organizing Chairperson presented memento to the Chief Guest Dr. S S Gill. The comprehensive trauma course will continue till tomorrow covering various aspects of trauma management.
