CHANDIGARH, November 9 :Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was adjudged the best fielder while N.P.Singh of
Parliamentarians XI was declared the best wicketkeeper in the 4th Surender Singh Memorial 30-overs cricket match in Gurgaon last night.
D. Suresh of CM XI was claimed the the Man of the Match award and Mohan Sharma of
Parliamentarians XI received the best batsman’s trophy. However, the day-night match ended in a tie with both teams posting an identical total of 176 runs in allotted overs.
In a nail-biting finish, Parliamentarian XI required four runs off the last ball bowled by
Haryana Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Azad Mohammad. However N.P.Singh and Deepak Yadav could take only three runs and the match ended in a tie.
Earlier after winning the toss, CM XI skipper Power Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala elected to bat first. Finance Minister Virender Singh and Speaker Haryana Vidhan Sabha, Raghubir Singh Kadian opened the innings. In the fourth over, Sarbanda Sonowal of Parliamentarians struck and claimed wickets of Birender Singh (4) and MLA Yadvender Singh (0) in his second over and
fourth over of the innings.
Kadian was also run out when the score was at 27. However the inning was steadied by two partnership of D.Suresh ( retired hurt 103) with skipper Surjewala ( 10) and Hooda (17) .
Hooda opened his account with two consecutive boundaries. D.Suresh
completed his century with a six.
Mohan Sharma and Sonowal claimed two wickets each whereas Brig K.P.Singh Deo and Dr Shaqeel Ahmed claimed one wicket each for Parliamentarians.
In reply Parliamentarian XI openers captain Mohan Rawale and Tariq Anwar realised 43 runs for the first wicket partnership. Azad claimed the first wicket of Rawale and Tariq Anwar
was adjudged leg before wicket of the bowling of CM Hooda.
Ranjeeta Ranjan was out for fprruns bowled by D.Suresh when the score was at 54. The innings got momentum with some lusty hitting by Mohan Sharma who scored 73 runs off 32 balls before he was caught by D.Suresh on his own bowling.
The Parliamentarian XI required 32 runs to win in last seven overs. Deepak Yadav, Avtar Singh Bhadana and K.P.Singh Deo failed to open their account. The Parliamentarians needed 29 in six overs, 28 runs
in five overs, 24 runs in four overs, 18 runs in three overs, 11 runs in last two overs and eight runs in the last over to win the match.
D.Suresh claimed three wickets including the prize wickets of Mrs. Ranjeet Ranjan and Mohan Sharma and one wicket each was shared by Hooda, Azad Mohammad and Yash Pal Yadav.
The trophy will be retained by the Parliamentarians for first six months.
Haryana Chief Minister and Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare, Mrs Kiran Chaudhry, who is also wife of the late Chaudhry Surender Singh gave away prizes to the players.
