CHANDIGARH, March 21 (Balbir Singh) The Chandigarh Table Tennis Association today honoured its players who have brought laurels to the City by winning medals at the national level.Mr DS Kalha, Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary to Government of Punjab, handed over prizes to the winners at a simple ceremony at the Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall here today.Those who were honoured were Meghna Kakaria of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, Naina Suri of DAV Public School, Sector 8, Kalyani of Manav Mangal School, Sector 21, veterans Balbir Singh Virdi and Harish Kumar of AG (Audit) Haryana.
Balbir Singh, who won the Plus 60 title in the National Veteran Table Tennis Championship in Jalandhar from February 21 to 24, has been selected to represent India in the World Veteran Table Tennis Championship to be held in Brazil in May this year.
Harish Kumar, coach of the Chandigarh sub-junior team which won bronze medal in the 69th Sub-Junior Nationals and Inter-State Championship in Chennai from December 24 to 29, lost in quarter-final in the plus 40 category in the National Veterans meet in Jalandhar, has also been selected to represent India in the World Veterans Table Tennis Championship in Brazil.Meghna Kakaria gave an outstanding performance in the 69th Sub-Junior Nationals and Inter-State meet in Chennai. She claimed bronze medal in the sub-junior singles category.
The Chandigarh sub-junior team, comprising Meghna Kakaria, Naina Suri and Kalyani, won bronze medal in the team championship in Nationals at Chennai.
The winners were presented four T-shirts, one track suit and one kit bag of GKI Company.Mr Kalha congratulated the Chandigarh players for winning laurels. It is all due to their hard work.Among those present on the occasion were CTTA president Tilak Raj and secretary Patanjli Kumar.
