CHANDIGARH, MARCH 23: The Chandigarh Administration under its guidance has come up with a unique community connect initiative to be organized jointly by the Chandigarh Police & Amar Ujala – The CPGCL( Chandigarh Police Gully Cricket League-2012). A fun cricket tournament aimed at the youth of the city.
The Logo of the League was unveiled today by Mr. Anil Kumar, the Home Secretary, UT, and the Chairman Organizing Committee. He also dedicated the Theme Song and the theme-“Har Gali Mai Balle Balle” to the citizens of the city beautiful.
The logo draws upon the colours of the national flag to instill a sense of patriotism in the youth. The saffron denotes the energy of the youth while the green and white the prosperity and the peace of city beautiful. Similarly the theme song evokes the joy and enthusiasm of the north India with typical Punjabi flavour to focus on balle balle in each street each mohalla of the city.
For the event the City has been divided into four zones, each headed by a DSP supported by representatives of Sports, Education, Engineering And Municipal Corporation for the conduct of the event. The event is built upon the community policing initiative of Chandigarh police through the recently set up beat system in the city.
Accordingly for this purpose a dedicated team of 146 beat constables and other support staff has been in the field for the last two weeks to disseminate information and motivate the youth to participate in the tournament. These beat officers are also the nodal agency to register the participant teams for the tournament.
This fun tournament will be played from March’30th to May 12th 2012 with Cricket Tennis Ball and shall be open for both men and women teams. In fact special arrangements are being made for other special categories which may also like to play or participate.
The tournament will be held in 4 Phases, in which the first phase i.e elimination round will be conducted from 30th March to 05th April, 2012. The details of the other 3 rounds i.e knock out, Round Robins and Final Night Cricket League will be revealed shortly.
The organizers have received tremendous response in terms of participation with 375 teams having registered themselves already. Accordingly to provide maximum opportunity to the youth to participate in the tournament the registration deadline has been fixed up to 5 pm on 25th of March, 2012. The participant teams can contact their respective Beat Constable, Police Post or the Police Station by Sunday the 25th of March, 2012 to register.
The eligibility criteria to register the teams are as follows:
1. The playing member of the team should not be more than 25 yrs as on 31st March’2012.
2. He/She should be a resident of Chandigarh or a Student of a School or College of Chandigarh.
3. He/She should not have represented either the State or the country in any format of the game.
4. That each team shall comprise of 15 players, One Team Manager & One Coach, making a total of 17 members.
5. One player can only represent one team, and cannot register or play with any other team.
6. It is advised that at the time of registration all teams provide, the proof of age and residence along with Photo ID of each participant.
7. No request for the registration will be entertained post 25th March, Sunday, after 5:00 p.m.
