CHANDIGARH, MARCH 5 : More than 800 competitors, including girls, will be seen in action in the 32nd Junior Boys (Freestyle and Greco-Roman) and 15th Female (freestyle) Junior Wrestling Championships to be hosted at the Sector 10 Rink Hall here from May 9 to 12.
Giving this information today, the Chandigarh UT Wrestling Association general secretary Darshan Lal and vice-president and Principal of DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, Mrs Vibha Ray said wrestlers from more than 25 states and Union Territories will compete in the two junior nationals.
Two mats would be used for conducting bouts at the Sector 10 Rink Hall. The weighing-in and medical will be held on May 9 while bouts will be organized from May 10 to 12 from 8 a.m. onwards.
Mr Darshan Lal said that various committees will be soon constituted by the Chandigarh UT Wrestling Association, headed by Punjab Director General of Police SS Saini, for the smooth conduct of the Junior Nationals. The Wrestling Federation of India is likely to select the Indian probables for the national coaching camps for the forthcoming international competitions. All WFI selectors and other office-bearers and technical officials will be present during the Junior Nationals.
The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) officials will take the samples of the winners as well as at random for analysis by the WADA certified agency in New Delhi to contain the menace of doping among sportspersons. Mr Darshan Lal said that “In case any medalist refuses to give sample, he or she will not be awarded medal.”
Mr Charanjit Singh, another vice-president of the Chandigarh UT Wrestling Association, said that the association will provide free board and lodging and transport to all participants and officials.
Meanwhile the Chandigarh State Junior Wrestling Championship will be hosted on April 11 and 12. The first two position holders in each category will attend a coaching camp. A Chandigarh team will be selected during the state coaching camp.
