Kolkata, Feb 17 : Following up a 67 in the first round, Moin Malak carded a round of two over 74 to guide India B to the team title at the LG All-India Amateur Golf Championship at the par-72 Royal Calcutta Golf Club. India B, made up of Moin and HS Kang, had a two-day total of six over 294. Moin also emerged as the top seed after totaling three under 141 after two rounds.
Bangladesh A (Jamal Hossain Mollah and D.H. Mollah) emerged as the second best team seven behind the winning team with a two day total of 301 and the Srilankan team (Mithun Perera and K Prabagaran) finished third with a total of 305.
Both Moin and Kang were visibly delighted with their effort. Kang said "This is the first time we were representing India at the All-India so obviously we are quite pleased with winning the team title."
Saurabh Bahuguna followed up his round of one under with an even par round today but the round of 67 in the first round from the Pune lad had put him way ahead of the pack and Bahuguna had to be content with being second seed.
Rashid Khan is the number three seed, after a round of two over 74 gave him a two-day total of 145. There are two international names in the top-10 seeds list with Bangladesh’s Md Jamal Hossain Mollah at 5th and Mithun Perera from Srilanka in 10th place. Mithun shot the best round, and his score of 71 today was also the only under par round of the day.
With the exception of the two players from Afghanistan, all other international players qualified for the matchplay stage. Imran Ali, one of the members from the Afghanistan team said "We gave it our best shot. Hopefully we get a chance to play again here."
After the completion of the team event, all eyes will now be on the matchplay rounds that commences here on Wednesday. The winner, who will emerge after 36-hole playoff finals on Sunday, will have to overcome six players before lifting the All-India title.
