CHANDIGARH, OCT 9 : Carmel Convent Sector 9 displayed their graceful movements to emerge champions with 13 points with the help of two gold and one silver in the dancesports competitions of the Mini Olympics 2011 being organized by Chandigarhschools under the patronage of Chandigarh Olympic Association at the Sector 10 Rink Hall here today.
Delhi Public School, Sector 40 and DAV School finished runners-up and third with six and five points, respectively.
Brother-sister pair of Madhav Ginoria and Tanayaa Ginoria of Delhi Pubic School, Sector 40 got maximum applause for their outstanding performance in the under-19 category and claimed the first position.
Chandigarh Municipal Corporation Commissioner Prerna Puri was the chief guest and distributed the prizes. Former Chandigarh Deputy Mayor HS Lucky was also present on the occasion.
Results: Under-8: 1 Gaumsi Thakur and Kshemya, 2 Siddharth Sharma and Roohi Arora, 3 Rishi Dahiya and Riya Kundra.
Under-10 cha-cha: 1 Geet and Molina, 2 Aashna Sharma and Samya Ahuja, 3 Vidushi Rawat and Nandani Khurana.
Under-12 cha-cha: 1 Kavya Chaudhary and Samiya Rekhi, 2 Parul Gupta and Bhavy Dalal, 3 Rhthmi and Diksha Dadlani.
Under-19: 1 Madhav Ginoria and Tanayaa Ginoria, 2 Kanchant Rawat and Aarushi Dadwal, 3 Syntha Wadhawan and Jasleen Kaur.
DAV-15 BOYS AND SACRED HEART-26 GIRLS TENNIS CHAMPS
DAV School, Sector 26 and Sacred Heart, Sector 26 emerged winners in the boys and girls team championship of Mini Olympics played at The Banya Tree School clay courts in Sector 48-8 B.
Sacred Heart girls beat The BTS by 2-0 in the final. DAV School-15 snuffed out a tough resistance from DAV School, Sector 8 by 2-1 in the final to win the boys trophy.
In the opening singles of the boys team championship, Digvijay Naruka beat Rohtas Singh by 6-3, 6-2 to give DAV-15 a 1-0 lead. However, Udai Singh Mann neutalised the lead after he beat Samrat Rana of DAV-15 by 6-4, 6-3. In the decider, Digvijay Naruka and Samrat Rana prevailed over Udai Singh Mann and Rohtas Singh 6-3, 7-6 (10-8).
Results: Boys (final) team championship: DAV-15 bt DAV-15 by 2-1 (Digvijay Naruka bt Rohtas Singh 6-3, 6-2, Samrat Rana lost to Digvijay Naruka 4-6, 3-6, Digvijay Naruka and Samrat Rana bt Udai Singh Mann 6-3, 7-6 (10-8).
For third and fourth places: The BTS-48 bt St Peter’s-37 by 2-1 (Kabir Manrai bt Rahul Seth 8-6, Vishrant lost to Vishvajeet Singh 2-8, Rahul Seth and Vishvajeet Singh bt Kabir Manrai and Vishrant 8-2.)
Girls team championship: Sacred Heart-26 bt The Banyan Tree-48 B 2-0 (Bhavika bt Anmol 2-0, Bhavya bt Subreen 4-1, 4-1).
