CHANDIGARH, SEPT 12 :Punjab Police held professional outfit United Punjab FC goalless and split points in round VII match of the 28th JCT Punjab State Super Football League at PAP Football Ground in Jalandhar today.
Punjab Police were better of two teams and made numerous effective moves, but the United Punjab Football Club defence nullified all their moves in both the halves and both teams have to content with one point each at the end of match. With this draw Punjab Police continued to retain number one position on league table.
In another match Border Security Force got the better of Central Reserve Police Force by a solitary goal at the Olympian Jarnail Stadium, Garhshankar (Hoshiarpur). BSF dominated the proceedings right from start of the match. In the very second minute of the game BSF came close to score opener of the game but in-form BSF striker Pawan Kumar Tiwari missed the golden scoring opportunity in front of open goal mouth.
In the fourth minute of the game N. Henery supplied a thorough ball to Sarabjit whose header also missed to slot home first goal of the game. Thereafter, CRPF showed some supremacy in their moves through Johan Lal, Sugesh M and Inderjeet and in 14th minute of the game Inderjeet missed scoring chance when he was supplied well measured pass by Sugesh M.
The17th minute of the game saw N.Henary missed a clear cut scoring opportunity when he received a well measured pass from his team mate. BSF continued to dominate the proceedings and in 18th minute S.Das supplied a thorough ball to Hopna Hansda who unleashed a good shot by CRPF custodian denied this superb move of BSF. Both teams went for interval time with 0-0 score line.
On resumption both teams entered the field with zeal and showed super football skills in their moves. In the 62nd minute Sarbjit took a superb shot from near left flag which T.R.Srinivasan softly guided the ball into the CRPF goal for the all-important goal.
Thereafter both teams started contesting the match hotly, but BSF could manage to keet their lead intact till end of match. Ravinder of CRPF was shown double yellow for his unsporting behaviour in the game and in 88th minute he was given marching order by the match referee. He will be missing the next game of his team.
