The India Post, Chandigarh, 10th February, 2009 : Dr. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, P.U. released a authored by Dr. Surinder K. Shukla in his office here today. He appreciated the efforts of the author for highlighting the complexities in society’s in transformation which come in the way of execution of reforms.
About the book:- In developed and developing countries alike, women suffer a disproportionate share of the effects of social disintegration, unemployment, environmental degradation and war. In many countries there is a vast gap between women’s rights on paper, according to law and policy, and their actual experience. With the efforts of United National the campaign to promote and protect the equal rights of women have generated more intense and widespread support. Public acceptance and awareness of the rights of women have never been so widespread. Millions of women, especially in developing countries and newly independent states, have begun moving towards self-realization and self-sufficiency.
This book is an attempt about positions and positioning of women. This should, however, not seem to be an attempt to overlook the presence of men in society. The book seeks to address both the theoretical significance of gender as realized by the United Nations and practical importance for all concerned with the formulation and administration of social policy. The objective is to focus on codification and implementation of women’s rights in, not only, political and economic spheres but also in relation to issues such as migration and intercultural zones, minorities and children. There are many books written separately on the United Nations and issues relating to women but none dealing with United Nations and women together. This book aims to fill this gap.
