CHANDIGARH, DECEMBER 19 : Scrutiny and competitor trials will begin on Friday for the 5th edition of OYA Autocross, Motocross and Offroad Challenge. The event is being organized from December 20 to 22 on the biggest track in north India.
President OYA Dr Sandeep Bansal said that the event has a heavy rush of entries. There were 70 standard spots for the Motocross (Bikers category). All have been filled. The 10 premium entries in this category will close soon.
Of the total 60 spots available for Autocross (Cars and SUVs category), 55 have been filled. Entries have closed for Uncaged Offroad Challenge. All the 25 spots have been filled.
SSP Mohali Mr Inder Mohan Singh Bhatti will inaugurate the event and also give away the prizes.
Patron OYA and Founder TCAS Mr Gulpreet Aulakh said that the event is going to be a mega motorsport carnival. Mr Aulakh added that OYA Autocross and Motocross will have the biggest and most technical track in the whole of north India. “The track for the event measures 2.5 kms. This is the only twin dirt track of the country, and the only Autocross and Motocross track to have a bridge,” said Mr Aulakh.
Traditionally, only trophies are given to the winners of Autocross and Motocross. For the first time, prizes will also be given to winners by Blaupunkt, Hankook and BG Racing.
The event flow is as follows:
Dec 20 – Scrutiny of Vehicles, Free Trials
Dec 21 – Qualifying Rounds for All Competitors
Dec 22 – Final rounds
OYA Autocross, Motocross and Offroad Challenge will have about 160 competitors.
For the OYA Autocross and Motocross, the tracks are barricaded from all sides, and a very technical and tricky circuit is laid for the cars and bikes. The participant who completes it in the shortest time is the winner. Over the last four years, this event has been a huge crowd puller, with a record 30,000 spectators last year.
OYA Autocross and Motocross is the only event in the country to boast of a Twin Dirt Track with a Bridge Cross. This has two cars racing on the same track, but they never meet. This means double the thrill for the spectators and also the competitors. The length of the race track is 2.5 kilometers approximately. The bridge with the under-tunnel created on the track further to the drama and the racing challenge.
Uncaged Offroad Challenge
The highlight of the three-day motorsport event is the Uncaged Offroad Challenge. This is among the most exciting categories of the event, and is open only for four-wheel drives. This specially designed track pulls the best offroaders in the country. It is created on the outer perimeter of the grounds, just inside the barricading. The track features difficult inclines, slushes, pits and other offroading thrills, difficult to traverse even for the most skilful drivers.
In Motocross, all participants are flagged off simultaneously, with each doing 10 to 12 laps. The Marshals posted along the track keep a record of their performance, and the results are compiled accordingly.
Two life-support ambulaces with paramedic staff are stationed at the spot during the event.
