CHANDIGARH, SEPT 14 : Mehar Baba Charitable Hockey Nursery and Haryana recorded big victories on the opening day of the Sub-Junior U-15 National Girls Hockey Championship at the ITI Grounds int Bassi Pathana (Punjab) today.
Displaying good skill, the MBCT Hockey Nursery girls handed out a 17-1 drubbing to Goa by 17-1. The highlight of the one-sided match was a brilliant hat-trick by Kaplish who pumped in five goals. The other winners’ scorers were Amandeep Kaur (3), Ramanpreet (2), Gangandeep (2), Gurleen Grewal (1), Kajal (1), Shweta (1) and Amritpal Kaur (1).
Riding the fine display by Meenu, who got five goals, routed Haryana scored a 10-1 victory over Bundelkhand. by 10-1 after establishing a commanding 4-0 lead in the first half. Simran (1), Anu (2) and Monica (1) also made valuable contribution. Bundelkhand also conceded a self goal.
The lone goal for Bundelkhand was scored by Shweta.
In the third match of the day, Himachal defeated Karnataka by 3-1. Himachal’s Madhu neatly beat the goal keeper and scored the first goal in 14th minute. Kusum made it 2-0 in 20th minute. Kanishta rounded of the winners’ tally. Kavyashree got the consolation goal for Karnataka.

Parminder praises MBCT ‘s move to revive hocky
CHANDIGARH, SEPT 14
Punjab Minister for Finance and Planning Parminder Singh Dhindsa, inaugurated the Sub-Junior U-15 National Girls Hockey Championship at the ITI Grounds int Bassi Pathana (Punjab) today.
Speaking on the occasion he lauded the efforts of MBCT Hockey Nursery for their efforts in reviving the Indian field hockey by training boys and girls of five years of age since 2009. “The girls need to be empowered and bringing this national girls hockey teams from all over the country would encourage other girls in Punjab to come forward and show their mettle in the field,” he said.
As an appreciation to the efforts being made by Prof. H.S. Mejie and Mehar Baba Charitable Trust, he announced a grant of Rs.3 lakh for the hockey nursery and Rs.10 lakh for creating a community centre in the area.
Hockey Olympian Mr Balbir Singh Senior, and Brig (retd) Harchand Singh, amongst local MLAs and dignitaries attended the inaugural.
The championship is being organized under the aegis of Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) and is hosted jointly by MBCT Hockey Nursery and Patiala Union Hockey Association with the help of the District Administration of Fatehgarh Saheb.
The 17 out of the 25 teams that arrived today, held the march past who shall be competing for Dr. Thakar Singh Ikolaha Championship Trophy instituted by MBCT Hockey Nursery in memory of great revolutionary from the region.
