25 July : First round of Anti Drug Campaign, in which, Pledge against Drugs was administered in Govt. Non-models schools of Chandigarh culminated today.
The Pledge was administered by Home-cum-Education Secretary, Mr. Ram Niwas, IAS, at Govt. Girls High School, Sector-25 and Govt. High School, Sector-24. Home-cum-Education Secretary interacted with the Children of GGHS-25 & GHS-24 on one-to-one basis and talked to them about keeping the City Beautiful clean and discussed the ways and methods of making the City peaceful and drug free. He talked about ‘passive smoking’ and ‘communal harmony’.
The campaign was launched on Tuesday i.e. 21st July, 2009 from Govt. High School, Sector-7. The Campaign is an initiative of State Institute of Education under the Population Education Project. Almost 60 Non-Model Schools will be covered in next 5 weeks and a Pledge will be administered every day in two schools by the officials of Education Department nominated by DPI (s).
Dr. Surinder S. Dahiya, Director, SIE said that most of the schools selected are Non-Model Schools as the children studying in these schools are from slums and colonies where there is a high prevalence of substance use. Trees will also be planted in all the schools in the next five weeks.
