CHANDIGARH, AUG 15 : Indian left hander Ankita Raina outclassed Vanesa Furlanetto of Argentina in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 on her way to quarterfinals of the $25,000 ITF Women Tennis Tournament in Westende-Middelkerke, Belgium, today.
Ankita from Ahmedabad will now cross swords with Katerina Vankova of Czech Republic for a semi-final berth. Katerina Vankova also has a smooth sailing as the Czech girls checked Daniela Seguel of Chile in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.
MAHITHA MOVES UP IN EGYPT: Mahitha Dadi Reddy of India moved into the second round by beating Rona Berisha of Great Bbritain in straight sets 6-4, 6-1 in the $ 10,000 ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament at Sharm El Sheikh ( Egypt) on Tuesday.
Earlier, Anushka Bhargava of India retired in her first round singles match against Dagmara Baskova of Slovakia. Both players were evenly matched as they split the first two sets,. However, in the third set Anushka Bhargava retired after trailing 2-3.
Anushka Bhargava won the first set at 6-3 but Dagmara Baskova hit back and won the second set at 6-4 to level one-set-all.
As many as 20 double faults were recording, including 17 committed by Anushka Bhargava. In a close contest, Anushka secured 75 total points, one less than her opponent. The Indian player had fired three aces and Dagmara two.
However, Mahitha Dadi Reddy of India moved into the second round by beating Rona Berisha of Great Bbritain in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.
