Postgraduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-42, and Chandigarh organized its 33rdAnnual Convocation Function in the college Auditorium “Sabras” on 05 April 2019. A total of 718 degrees – 156 in Post-Graduation, 83 in B.Com (Hons),13 in Biotech (Hons), 112 in BA (Hons), 15 in BCA, 23 in B.Com,152 in B.Sc ,13 in PGDCA, 14 in PGDGC, 10 in B.P.Ed, 04 in PGDCAF and 123 in BA were conferred degrees on the occasion . 05 students were conferred Roll of Honours, 66 were awarded College colour and 38were given merit prizes for bagging positions at the College level in the Annual University Examination. Geetika of M.Sc Zoology, Sandeep Kaur of M.Sc Microbial Biotechnology, Harjeet Kaur of B.Sc BioTech (Honours), Tajinder Kaur of BA Political Science (Honours)and Jaspreet Kaur of BA Punjabi (Honours) were awarded ‘Trophies of Academic Excellence’ for Standing first in Panjab University. These students will be awarded Gold Medals at the Panjab University Convocation.
Prof. Raj Kumar, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, the Chief Guest on the occasion, congratulated the students and reiterated the need to revive the Guru Shishya Parampara to make Education more meaningful. He also released the Functional English Newsletter- ‘Scoop’on the occasion.
Principal Prof. Binu Dogra highlighted the achievements of the college for the current session which includes 110 positions in the university exams, 41 prizes including 10 first prizes, 06 second prizes, 18 third prizes and 07 individual prizes in the PU Zonal Youth Festival, 08 prizes at Inter-Zonal and 2 prizes at intervarsity youth festival besides various accolades in the sports arena. In a momentous feat, this year 110 students of our college have bagged top 10 university positions in PG & UG classes. It is commendable that 5 of our students will be receiving Gold Medals at University Convocation for securing First Position in their respective classes during the session 2017-18.
Principal Dogra mentioned that 22 students of Dept. of Sanskrit have been awarded Merit Scholarship instituted by the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi. 17 of our sportswomen have been conferred Roll of Honour and 37 with College Colour for their outstanding performance in National and Inter Varsity Competitions in various games. Sandhya of BPEd received a prize of one Lakh for bagging two Gold and Two Bronze medals in All India Intervarsity Wushu Championship at P U Annual Sports Function today. Pratibha and Roji Bala received Rs 28000/- each in the same category .Harnaaz Sandhu has the rare distinction of being chosen as the FBB Colours Femina Miss India Punjab 2019. In recognition of her achievement, she is being conferred the title” DIVA of the college”.
Prof. Parvinder Singh, Controller of Examination, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Prof. Manjit Kaur coordinated the function and Mrs. Sushmita, Dean, proposed a vote of thanks.
