The India Post, Chandigarh, 22th May, 2009 : Over 250 cyclists from over 20 Schools of the city pedaled for 4th INTER-SCHOOL CYCLING GAMES, held at Moti Ram Arya Sr. Sec. Model School, Sector 27 A, Chandigarh. Saurabh Kumar, IFS, DCF, Department of Forests, Chandigarh Administration was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The event was organized jointly by Yuvsatta-an NGO and Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration.Addressing the students Mr. Saurabh Kumar said World Biodiversity Day is a perfect occasions to spread the message of environmental conservation amongst the masses, especially in the students-the generation next. And as biggest threat in urban city for protection of biodiversity is increasing vehicular pollution, so organization on bicycles games on this day is a perfect way to spread the message. He further said that a city like Chandigarh with highest density of vehicles in the country is a right place for promotion of Cycling and everybody including the youngsters could easily adopt Cycle as a mode of transport, which will not only promote healthy life-style but also responsible behaviour.
Based on overall tally of Prizes Moti Ram Arya Sr. Sec. Model School was declared overall winner in the contests and three others Schools namely Tribune Model School, Sri Aurobindo School of Integral Education and Government Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector 40 were declared runner-ups and they all will be presented with special trophies in a State level function on World Environment Day on June 5, 2009.
Individual students who won various prizes includes; Slow Cycling: 1st Prize – in Junior boys Chander Mohan of Moti Ram Arya, in Junior girls-1st Prize Urvashi of Tribune Model School. 1st Prize – in Sr. boys Kashish of GMSSS-40 B & in Sr. girls-1st Prize Dipshi Jain of Moti Ram Arya School. Zig-zag race: 1st Prize – in Junior boys Jatin of Moti Ram Arya, in Junior girls-1st Prize Shikha of Tribune Model School. 1st Prize – in Sr. boys Virinder of GMSSS-40 B & in Sr. girls-1st Prize Ujjwala of Sri Aurobindo School. Pricking balls: 1st Prize – jointly to Amandeep Singh of Sri Guru Gobind Singh School, Sector 35 B & Rupinder Singh of Sri Guru Nanak Khalsa School, Sector 30 B & in girls-1st Prize was bagged by Nipika of Moti Ram Arya School. Exchanging balls: 1st Prize – Team of Rahul & Abhishek of Moti Ram Arya School & in girls-1st Prize Team of Varunima & Vasukriti of Sri Aurobindo School of Integral Education. Decorate your bike contest: 1st Prize – Chanchal Bajaj of Tribune Model School. Largest team on a bike contest: 1st Prize went to Team of seven students on a single bicycle by Sukhjit Singh of DAV Sr. Sec. School, Sector 8 C, Chandigarh. And in girls same event was won by Preeti and her four team mates from GMSSS-44 B.
