23 April,Chandigarh : The 4th Indian National Brain Bee (a Neuroscience Contest), will be held on the 23rd and 24th of April, 2011, at PGIMER, Chandigarh. This event is the culmination of the efforts of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh and Indian National Brain Bee (INBB ), Hyderabad who sought to bring about greater awareness among youth—future scientists—about the challenges and opportunities in neuroscience research.
The Brain Bee is a quiz competition on neurosciences for students who have exceptional credentials in biology and have an interest to pursue careers in healthcare. This contest is conducted on a regional level and subsequently at a national level in participating countries and followed at the International level. The International Brain Bee (IBB) is founded and directed by Prof. Norbert Myslinski, University of Maryland,US.The third Indian National Brain Bee Champion,Ms.Ritika Chokhani, P P S I J College, Mumbai was the winner at the 11th International Brain Bee Championship, held in San Diego on 14th,August ,2010.
India is now gearing up to retain the International Brain Bee Championship-title for the year 2011
Eighteen regional finalists, two from each of the nine centers, will participate in the championship final, at PGI, to be officiated by Dheeraj Khurana MD,DM, Associate Professor, Department of Neurology,PGIMER and the PGI team.
Visiting Neurologists and Neurosurgeons from different parts of the country will be the acting judges for the contest .
On the fist day, 23rd ,April, all the participants will be given training in different aspects of Neurology by the specialists in their respective fields.24th April is the day of quiz contest to be held at the advance Paediatric Centre , PGIMER, Chandigarh.
The format of the quiz too, promises to be challenging and fun. The Indian National Brain Bee finals will be conducted in four stages: The 1st stage is oral quiz, the 2nd stage involve a patient-doctor simulation, where some of the doctors will enact the symptoms that may be seen in patients with particular problems, and the contestants have to play the doctor and identify the disorders. The 3rd stage of the contest involves identification of the parts of the brain which requires preparation in human neuro-anatomy. A real human brain will be used by the examiners in posing each student with a set of questions. In 4th round of written test, the Champion is selected from the three finalists picked up from the first three rounds
The Indian National Brain Bee champion -2011 will be given a trophy, a laptop computer, a certificate and will be sponsored by International Brain Bee a paid trip to Florence Italy to participate in the 12th International Brain Bee finals, scheduled to take place in August, 2011that will coincide with World Neuroscience Conference at Italy.
