CHINA:A week-long Indian Food Festival organized by the Union Ministry of Tourism to commemorate the opening of India Tourism Office in China began today. The Food Festival at Renaissance Hotel, Shanghai was inaugurated jointly by the Union Secretary of Tourism Shri S. Banerjee and Mr. Dao Shu Ming, Chairman
Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administrative Commission. Speaking on the occasion Shri S. Banerjee said Indian and Chinese cuisines have long transcended national borders and figure prominently on menus the world over. He said in India we like Chinese food so much that we have indigenized it tot the extent that “Indian Chinese” food is gaining recognition as a distinct culinary experience. Shri Banerjee said Indian Cuisine reflects the rich diversity of Indian Culture. Each region of the country has its own culinary tradition.
Shri Dao Shuming wishing India Food Festival a great success said with this event friendship and cooperation between the two countries will be greatly developed. He said tourism has become a bridge of enhancing the understanding and friendship between China and India.
During the week-long festival twenty different dishes from across the country are being served. The food has been prepared under the guidance of Corporate Chef of “The Ashok Hotel” Shri M.S. Gupta.
An “Incredible India Evening” is also being organized on 9th April at the prestigious Shanghai Concert Hall. The event would be inaugurated by the Shanghai leadership and would be attended by political leaders, officials, academics, students and entrepreneurs from eastern China, besides members of the consular corps, the tourism industry, media and the Indian community.
