CHANDIGARH, AUG 29 : Delhi-based Indian Davis Cupper Yuki Bhambri entered singles quarter-finals of the $ 15,000 ITF Men’s Future Tennis Tournament at Tien-Mu Tennis Courts in Taipie City today. Fifth seeded Yuki ousted Dayne Kelly of Australia in two well-contested sets 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the pre-quarter-final fixture.
Yuki Bhambri is now scheduled to meet third seed Yuichi Ito of Japan for a berth in semi-final. Ito struggled to beat Cheng-Yu Yu of Taipei in an absorbing three-setter quarter-final match by 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-3.
JEEVAN AND VISHNU ON WINNING SPREE:Second seeded Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and fifth seed Vishnu Vardhan, both Indians, steered themselves into singles quarter-finals of the $ 15,000 ITF Men’s Futures Tennis Tournament in Libreville (Gabon) today.
Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan huffed and puffed before overcoming a fighting Alexis Klegou (Ben) in three sets. The first and third and deciding sets were extended to the tie-breker. Alexis just managed to beat Jeevan by 7-6 (3) in the first set. Jeevan was in full flow in the second set which be won comfortably at 6-1. Tied one-set all the third set dished out the best from both players. However, Jeevan labored to win by 7-6 (6) and a place in the quarter-final.
Jeevan will now meet Matias Castro (Argentina) who faced a stiff challenge from eighth seed Hassan Ndayishimiye (Bdi) 6-7(2) 6-3 7-6(3).
Vishnu Vardhan easily disposed of the challenge from Canadian Eric Vehovec 6-1 6-2. Vishnu’s next opponents in doubles semi-final will be fourth seed SM Barry of Ireland who defeated Seydou Diallo (Mli) and Daouda Ndiaye (Sen) 6-3 6-3.
