CHANDIGARH, OCT 8 : Brilliant centuries by opener Unmukt Chand (140) and Nitish Rana (147 not out) and their 241-run partnership for the third wicket paved the way for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation to defeat Baroda by 36 runs in the day/night final of the 21st All-India JP Atray Cricket Tournament at the PCA Stadium here tonight.
Batting first ONGC posted 318 for 5 in allotted 50 overs. They were two down for 40 in 9 overs, befoe Unmukt Chand and Nitish Rana dominated the Baroda bowlers as they stitched a double century partnership. Unmukt departed after scoring 140 frin 152 balls and hit 11 boundaries and five sixes.
Nitish Rana remained undefeated on 147 which he compiled from 108 balls. He reached the fence 11 times slammed five soaring sixes. Right arm medium fast bowler Smith Ghosh was the most successful bowler for Baroda.
In reply, Baroda were all out for 282 in 47.5 overs. Aditya Waghmode played a defiant knock of 120 (106 balls, 16x4s). Kunal Pandya (74, 5x4s, 1×6) and Abhijit Karmbelkar (23) were the other main scorers for Baroda.
Right arm medium fast bowler Sumit Narwal (4 for 56) and right arm leg spinner Rahul Tewatia (3 for 40) restricted the Baroda innings to 282.
Triple hockey Olympic goal medallist Padamshree .Balbir Singh Sr. was the chief guest gave away the winners trophy and a cheque of Rs. 2.00 lakh to ONGC Team. The runners-up cheque of Rs. 1.00 lakh and trophy was received by Baroda team captain Aditya Waghmode.
