New Delhi: The new sports minister Sarbananda Sonowal, he took charge of the ministry of youth affairs and sports on Tuesday, plans to make sports an integral part of the masses. He however said that detail plans would be announced later. After taking over the charge, he interacted with the top officials of the ministry. He was also briefed on the key initiative and policy frame work of the ministry.
Apart from independent charge of sports, Sonowal, an MP from Lakhimpur constituency of Assam, has been given charge of minister of state for skill development and entrepreneurship (independent charge).
Sonowal, a former president of the All Assam Students Union was also an MLA in the Assam Assembly from 2001-04. He is also the chief of BJP unit in Assam.
