CHANDIGARH, NOV 11 : Scoring two goals in each half, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College of Sector 26 emerged champions by defeating Principal Accountant General (Audit) Haryana by 4-0 in the final of the Chandigarh Institutional League Football Championship for Mahindra Swaraj Cup – 2013 at Sector 17 Football Stadium here today.
The title clash started on a cautious note as both teams took time to probe rival defence and ball generally remained confined to mid field for the first 15 minutes. Haryana Audit right striker Harminder Singh was the first to try a long ranger at the rival goal which went over the goal post.
Now it was the turn of the Khalsa College forwards led by left striker Rajan Negi who dribbled two defenders and went straight into Haryana area and gave a pass to his right winger Saurav. Saurav took a powerful shot which struck the Haryana goalpost and went out.
The Khalsa College forwards started dominating the proceedings and kept the ball under their possession and made repeated attacks to break the tight defence of Haryana managed by right stopper Harvinder Singh. Their efforts bore fruits in the 24th minute when left striker Rajan Negi of Khalsa College got a through pass from stopper Nikhil Prasher and beat the Haryana Audit goal keeper Kulwinder Singh with an angular shot.
The Haryana Audit forwards, led by right striker Harminder Singh, tried hard to equalize but failed at the crucial movement and Khalsa College boys scored their second goal in 43rd minute through left striker
Rajan Negi who scored with solo efforts.
On resumption right stopper Nikhil Prashar of Khalsa College further increased their margin in 46th minute with a powerful shot which beat the rival goalkeeper completely. The Khalsa College forwards did not allowed their rivals any liberty by keeping Haryana Audit on their toes with repeated raids. Left striker Rajan Negi rounded of the winners’ tally l in 67th minute.
