MOHALI, July 2:Sector 16 Cricket Stadium XI, Chandigarh, and APJ School of Kharar recorded impressive victories on the opening day of the inaugural Sardar Amar Singh Memorial Under-12 Cricket Tournament being organized by Mohali Cricket Association at the PCA Ground 3 and Yadvindra Public School ground here today.
Indian selector Bhupinder Singh Senior was the chief guest. He was introduced to the participating teams.
APJ XI routed Sunny Enclave XI by eight wickets and Sector 16 Stadium XI, with the help of unbeaten knocks of 62 by Nipun and 40 by Jasandeep, outclassed Yadvindrra Public School by 70 runs.
Batting first, Sector 16 Cricket Stadium, with a strike rate of six runs an over, posted a good total of 120 without any loss in 20 overs. Nipun (62) and Jashandeep (40) opened their innings and remained unseparated for the first wicket.
In reply Yadvindra Public School were restricted to 50 for 6 in allotted 20 overs. YPS batsmen failed to cope up with the spin deliveries of Rajat who bowled an economic spell by taking four wickets for just six runs. Only Jaskaran and Abhimanyu could reach the double figure by scoring 12 and 10 runs, respectively.
In the second match, APJ XI routed Sunny Enclave XI by eight wickets.. Sunny Enclave XI batted first and made 85 for 9 in stipulated 25 overs. Raman played an unbeaten knock of 30. For APJ XI Anmal and Harmeet were the most successful bowlers by taking three and two wickets for 21 and 10 runs, respectively.
Chasing an easy total, APJ XI achieved their target by scoring 86 for 6 in 23 overs. Simran (30 not out) and Harmeet (20) were their main scorers. Gaurav bagged 2 for 7 for Sunny Enclave XI.
