SANGRUR, DEC 6 : Hosts Sangrur claimed the overall trophy by securing 24 points in the Punjab State Rural Games for Girls Under–16 at the War Heroes Stadium here today. Tarn Taran finished runners-up with 19 points. Mukatsar wered third with 11 points.
Jyoti Saini of Hoshiarpur bagged gold in 1500m clocking 5:05.32. Simranjit Kaur of Gurdaspur won silver in 5:20.53 and Rajwinder of Tarn Taran got bronze timing 5:23.38..
The Amritsar girls clinched basketball gold by defeating Jalandhar with a margin of 45-26 points. Gurdaspur defeated Mansa 68-62 to decide third and fourth positions.
Tarn Taran got the better of Mukatsar by 3-2 in the hockey final. Amritsar outplayed Mansa 3-1 by tie breaker.
Jasvir Kaur of Kapurthala won gold in 46 kg in boxing by defeating Lakhwinder Kaur of Gurdaspur by 2-1 points. In 48 kg Harpreet Kaur of Bathinda defeated Gurpreet Kaur of Gurdaspur by 2-1. In 50 kg Kirandeep Kaur of Gurdaspur beat Kamaljeet Kaur of Patiala by win over points 3-0. In 52 kg Simmi Sounti of Gurdaspur grounded Narinder Kaur of Barnala referee stop contest in the third roud.
Tarn Taran bagged team championships by getting 21 points in judo, Mansa got 20 points and won silver where as Jalandhar remained third with 17 points.
Ferozepur grabbed gold in kabaddi by defeating Sangrur 76-63. Bathinda got bronze by beating Faridkot 57-45.
In kho-kho final Sangrur outclassed Ludhiana by 13-4 and Bathinda got bronze as they outolayed Ferozepur by 9-1 points.
In volleyball Mukatsar Sahib defeated Mansa 25-15,25-15,25-9 and Tarn Taran won bronze by defeating Jalandhar 25-18,25-19, 25-21.
Punjab PWD (B&R) Minister gave away prizes to the winners and declared the games closed. He praised the polices and programes of the Punjab Sports Department.
