India’s double trap shooter Ronjan Sodhi won silver medal in the ISSF World Cup in Beijing, China. In the process he also won “quota place” for next year London Olympic Games. Delhi-based shotgun shooter is the fourth shooter to qet a “quota place” for London Games.
In the preliminary round he shot 142/150 (46 48 48) and was ranked at second place. In the final round he shot 41/50, which helped him win silver. Ronjan Sodhi, an Arjuna Awardee, has equalled the world record, both in qualification round (147/150) and final (194/200) during Belgrade World Cup in 2008. He also won a gold medal at Asian Games Guangzhou, China in 2010. He was the only Indian shooter to win gold in the continental games. Two other shooters who were shooting in main event, namely Mohd Asab and Vikram Bhatnagar shot 136 and 128 and finished at 13th and 35th positions, respectively. Athens games silver medallists, Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who was shooting in MQS. Category scored 138/150.. Ajay Mittal, also in MQS Category shot 128. Earlier, Gagan Narang, Hari Om Singh and Sanjeev Rajput, all rifle shooters, have won “quota places” for London Olympic Games.�
In Beijing trap event will start from April 26. Mansher Singh, Kynan Chenai and Anirudh Singh will shoot for “Quota Place”. Manavjit Singh missed this World cup due to leg injury. The shooters can also get “quota places” from ISSF World Cups at Fort Benning, USA, Munich, Germany (both for Rifle/Pistol) Maribore, Slovenia (shotgun events) and World Championship at Belgrade, Serbia (shotgun events) this year. Asian Shooting Championship will be held during the month of January 2012 at Doha, Qatar, which is the last competition, from where shooters can also get quota places.
