KOLKATA, Jan 2 :Rashid Khan added another feather to his cap by winning the Lalit Suri All-India Junior Golf Championship at the par-72 Royal Calcutta Golf Club. Starting the final round level with Ashbeer Saini, Rashid carded a final round of 4-under par 68 to win by seven strokes with a 72-hole total of 3-under 285.
Chikkarangappa finished third in the overall standings as he carded a round of one over 73 to finish one stroke behind Ashbeer with a four-day total of five over 293. Despite missing out on the overall title, Kapurthala lad Ashbeer was a comfortable winner in Category B (U-15) as the next best, Rahul Ravi, finished twenty strokes behind with a four-day total of 312.
The winners apart from the glittering trophies also received a piece of advice from the chief guests – Kolkata legends Basad Ali and SSP Chowrasia.
Tutul Ali took the honours in Category C (U-12) as he upstaged the favourite, Honey Basoya by a solitary stroke. Tutul returned a card of eight over 80 while Basoya played a round of nine over 81.
In the junior most category, Piyush Sangwan won by a margin of five strokes, owing to a first round score of one over 73 which helped him establish a lead over the rest of the players in his category.
Ashbeer matched Rashid stroke for stroke in the beginning of the round and even sneaked ahead of Rashid on the fourth hole where Rashid made a bogey. But by the time the final group made the turn, Rashid had established a three shot lead over Ashbeer and from there on the margin kept increasing.
After a bogey on the par-4 tenth, Rashid brought to the fore his A-game and played blemish free golf which included an eagle on the 15th. A 33 on the back-nine meant Rashid played his best round of the week, a 68, which was one better than his performance in the third round.
