RAIPUR, OCT 16 : Railway Sports Promotion Board ruled the ring to emerge overall winners in the First Monnet Steel Elite Women’s National Boxing Championship here today. The Railway boxers claimed six golds to garner 52 points for the team championship. Haryana claimed the runners-up trophy.
Pinki Rani earned the first gold for Railways by defeating Rebecca Lalinmawil of Mizoram by 3:0 in the fly weight category. Priyanka Choudhry of Railway Sports Promotion Board emerged the most skilled boxer as she was adjudged the best boxer of the championship. In the final out in the light weight class (57-60 kg) Priyanka defeated Priyana of Tripura by 3-0.
Other Railways gold medallists were: Pavitra (light welter), Neetu (welter), Monica Saun (middle) and Pwilao Basumatary (feather).
The Best Challenger Boxer crown went to Sonia of Haryana (54 kg, Haryana) who lost to Meena Kumari of Kerala in bantam weight final.
Meena Kumari of Kerala (bantam) was declared the most promiting boxer of the competitions.
