The league stages have been completed in the 65th National Basketball Championship for Junior (u-18) Men and Women 2014. The quarterfinals will start tomorrow
In the junior women’s section, Chhattisgarh (4-0) and Kerala (4-0) have topped their respective groups. From Group A, Chhattisgarh will be joined by Uttar Pradesh and Punjab in the quarterfinals. From Group B, Kerala will be joined by Maharashtra and Haryana. Fourth placed sides from both Group A and B, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh will play pre-quarterfinal matches tomorrow against the two top seeded sides from the lower level, Delhi and West Bengal. Bottom placed sides from Group A and Group B, Tamil Nadu (1-3) and Rajasthan (0-4) will be relegated to Level 2 next year.
In the junior men’s section, Delhi (3-1), Haryana (3-1) and Madhya Pradesh (2-2) have qualified for the knockouts from Group A. From the opposite Group B, Tamil Nadu (4-0), Maharashtra (3-1 )and Punjab (2-2) have qualified for the quarterfinals. In another crucial match to be played later this evening, Kerala jr men (0-3) will face Chhattisgarh (1-2) in a battle for fourth place. The winning team will qualify for the pre-quarterfinals, while the losing side will be relegated to the lower level (level 2).
From the lower level, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh (jr. men), Delhi and West Bengal (jr. women) have progressed to the elite level 1 for next year. These four sides will play the pre-quarterfinals tomorrow against the fourth placed sides from Level 1.
