CHANDIGARH, NOV 24 : Hosts Punjabi University squad team comprising Rajbir, Sukhchain, Kumar Gaurav and Ashish won gold and in the process set a new record by clocking1:44.837 in 1500 metres Men team event on the first day of the All India Inter University Cycling Track (men and women) Championship at Cycling Velodrome of University Campus in Patiala on Tuesday.
The Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar (Amit Kumar, Anil Kumar, Rubalpreet and Manjit) secured silver with a. time of 1:45.733 Kurukshetra University (Sandeep, Deepak, Neeraj and Parveen) will take home bronze medal as their cyclists timed 1:52.100 seconds.
In the Elimination Race for men Mohit Kumar and Pavan Kumar, both of Punjabi University won gold and silver medals, respectively. Kishore of Bharthi Vidyapeeth Pune earned bronze medal.
In the1500 metres (women) team event, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar (Parvathy V.G., Manisha, Keziya and Sayona) earned gold medal by clocking 2:03.593 sec. Punjabi University, Patiala (Priyanka, Pushpinder, Jagjit and Harpreet) claimed silver medals by clocking 2:10.231. Kerala University (Harsha Jose, Tinu, Geethu Raj and Archana) received bronze medal by clocking 2:13.934 sec.
About 250 cyclists from 30 universities are competing in the championship.
Punjabi University Sports Director. Raj Kumar Sharma congratulated thr Punjabi University cycling coach Mittarpal Singh Sidhu (National coach) and his trainees for bringing laurels to the university.
