SANGRUR, DEC 2 : Sangrur is all set to host the Punjab State Rural Games for Girls (under – 16 years) at War Heroes Stadium here from December 3 to 5. The events is being organized by Punjab Sports Department in collaboration with Sports Authority of India under “Panchayat Yuva Karida Aur Khel Abhiyan” (PYKKA) scheme .
Addressing a press conference here today, Punjab Deputy Director Sports SL Lotey said that about 2100 players from all over the state are competing in the games.The Department has deputed 200 officials conduct the events.
The Deputy Director Sports further disclosed that this competition would serve as the base to select teams to represent Punjab at National Level Rural Competitions. He said that the teams would go under coaching camps for intensive training prior to participation at National level.
Lotey informed that competition would be organized in 11 in athletics, basketball, boxing, hockey, handball, judo, kho kho, kabaddi, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling. He further said all the venues to condut the events are ready. The War Hero’s Stadium would host athletics, basketball, boxing, handball, kho kho, kabaddi, volleyball, weightlifting, and wrestling. judo will be conducted at Prem Sabha Sr. Sec School & Hockey at Govt. Ranbir College.
Former Union Sports Minister and president of the Punjab Olympic Association Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa inaugurate the Games. Punjab PWD (B and R) Minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa would be
the chief guest at the closing ceremony. Punjab Sports Director Pargat Singh will be present on both occasions.
