CHANDIGARH, JAN 20 : The 43-member team of Chandigarh NCC Directorate returned here today from the 52nd National Shooting Championship held in Thodupuzha (Kerala) from January 4 to 17, with 13 medals.
In 50 metres 3 Position Sports Rifle junior women the sole individual silver medal was won by Shikha Dall scoring 561 points out of 600. In team event of 50 metres 3 Position Rifle Junior Women the cadets won silver medal, cadet Gurjeet Kaur, Rekha C, and Anjali Yadav represented the team scoring 536, 565 and 530 points, respectively, out of 600 points.
In 50 metres Prone Jr. men team event bronze medal was bagged by cadet Mohd. Rehan, PK Kaveri and Parvesh Ladwal scoring 568, 563 and 575 out of 600 points, respectively.
In 50 metres Sports Rifle Prone Women the teams won Bronze represented by Rekha C, Hema KC, and Anjum Modgil with 569, 576 and 570 points respectively and in 50 metres 3 Prone Sports Rifle Women again the team bagged bronze medal . The team represented by Hema KC, Sneha and Rekha C scored 568, 545 and 560 points respectively out of 600 points.
Col MS Chauhan, Group Commander, NCC Group Headquarters, Chandigarh alongwith Col V Datta, Commanding Officer, 2 Chandigarh Battalion NCC, Chandigarh were responsible for the training and fielding of the DG NCC Shooting which participated in the National Shooting Championship.
Seaking on the occasion Col Chauhan commented that the ranges and the infrastructure existing at Chandigarh required a lot of improvement and that the UT Government should make a consorted effort to bring up the ranges as per with international standards .He further stated about the potential of the cadets from this region citing example of cadet Hema KC ,who is shaping up well and won team gold and individual silver at the recently concluded SAF Games held at Islamabad, Pakistan.
