MANSA, SEPT 30 :Ludhiana won the overall trophy by securing 24 points in the Punjab State Rural Games for Boys Under-16, organised by the Punjab Sports Department at the Nehru Memorial Government College ground which concluded here today. Amritsar finished runners-up with 12 points while Jalandhar and Gurdarpur were jointly declared third with an identical 11 points apiece.
In the four-day competitions for players from the rural background, Ludhiana emerged winners in kabbadi, weightlifting and volleyball and also finished runners-up in athletics, kho-kho and tur of war. Competitions were conducted in athletics, archery, football, hockey, kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, weightlifting, tur of war and wrestling.
According to Punjab Sports Director Padamshree Pargat Singh, the Punjab Sports Department has organised block level tournaments in all the 141 blocks of the state and have spent Rs one lakh per block.
Bhupinder Singh Bhunder, General Secretary, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) was the chief guest and distributed the prizes to the winners.
Results: Overall championship: 1 Ludhiana 24 points, 2 Amritsar 12 points, 3 Jalandhar and Gurdaspur 11 pts each.

Kabaddi: 1 Ludhiana, 2 Mansa, 3 Taran Taran. Kho-kho: 1 Jalandhar, 2 Ludhiana, 3 Bathinda. Tug of war: 1 Moga, 2 Ludhiana, 3 Kapurthala. Weightlifting: 1 Ludhiana, 2 Sangruru, 3 Patiala and Amritsar. Volleyball: 1 Ludhiana, 2 Amritsar, 3 Sangrur. Wrestling: 1 Jalandhar, 2 Amritsar, 3 Gurdaspur.
