LUDHIANA, NOV 15 : Khalsa Warriors avenged their Bhopal defeat they had suffered at the hands of Punjab Thunder by outplaying them in the second match of the day at the Wave World Kabaddi League as they won 67-49 on Sunday. Khalsa Warriors now have 35 points from 20 matches and are a clear first with United Singhs in second place at 25 points from 21 matches.
The battle for the last two semi-finalists will be decided on Sunday with three teams still in the fray as Punjab Thunder meet Vancouver Lions and Khalsa Warriors face California Eagles.
Three teams California Eagles (22 from 20 matches), Punjab Thunder (20 from 20) and Vancouver (20 from 20 matches) are in the fight for the last two berths. Khalsa (33 from 20 matches) and United (25 from 21 matches) are sure of their semi-final berths.
In Saturday’s clash, Khalsa Warriors won the toss and opted to raid first. They sought to get an early advantage and stoppers Satnam Chahal(3) and Bhupinder Singh Bhinda (1) gave them that edge while raiders Gagandeep Singh (3) and Jasmanpreet Raju (3) added to their might.
For Punjab Thunder Lakhveer Singh(2), Yadwinder Singh (2) and Rana Alishan (1) earned valuable points through good stops and raiders Sultan Singh (4) and Jasjeet Singh (3) performed well but it was Khalsa who led 17-15.
In the second session, Gagandeep Jogewal (5), Jasmanpreet Raju (3) and Manjot Gill (4) of Khalsa Warriors were in great form, while Satnam Sattu (2) and Gurpreet Singh Batth (3) defended well.
In contrast, Sultan Singh Singh and Jasjeet Singh scored 2 raid points each for Punjab Thunder and Yadwinder Singh and Lakhveer Singh Lakha managed 2 stops each as Khalsa Warriors moved further ahead at 36-24.
The third quarter saw Khalsa Warriors stoppers performing well yet again as Satnam Singh and Gurpreet Singh both earned 2 stop points for their team. Their raiders Gagandeep Singh (4) and Manjot Gill (5) were also in fine form.
For Punjab Thunder stoppers Harwinder Singh and Lakhveer Singh earned one stop point each while raiders Sultan Singh (5) and Jasjeet Singh (4) tried hard but Khalsa were running away with the game at 51-38.
The final session saw Khalsa Warriors raiders Gagandeep Singh and Jasmanpreet Raju maintain the tempo as their team ran out 67-49 winners.
