16 Jan : What better way to ward off the chill than marching and running races in the bright sun! The Junior Wing of Vivek High School, Sector 38, Chandigarh celebrated its Sports Day, on Saturday 16 January, 2010. About 460 students from classes UKG to 3 cheered on by their parents, grandparents and peers enthusiastically took part in the eagerly awaited annual event.
The day began with students marching in unison in class contingents, to the rhythmic beat of the drum. In keeping with the ‘participation for all’ philosophy, each child participated in at least in one event.
There were separate flat races for boys and girls and also interesting skill races like ‘The Bean Bag Race’, ‘Ball & Hoop’, ‘Zig Zag Race’, ‘Balancing Beams’, ‘Sack Race’, ‘Hoop & Jump’ and ‘The Three Legged Race’.
The most popular event of the day was the Inter-Class 50M X 4 Relay. The entire field came alive with the cheering of their respective classes by the eager students. Not to be left behind the parents and grandparents participated whole heartedly in the fun filled ‘Tug of War’.
The day came to an end with the entire school joining in to sing the School Song that reverberated throughout the sports field. All beaming 5-9 year olds left for home with happy cheerful faces.
