Pune: Jalgaon Battlers produced yet another thumping 4-2 victory over Pune Tru Masters in the second round of the Johnson Tiles Maharashtra Chess League 2014 to sit pretty at the top of the points tally with 7.5 points.
Ahmednagar Checkers who had shocked defending Champion Pune Attackers in the first round on Wednesday ended on the losing side against Thane Combatants by a 2-4 score, while Pune Attackers were held to a 3-3 draw by Mumbai Movers.
Mumbai Movers, Thane Combatants and Ahmednagar Checkers have tallied 6.5 points each, Pune Attackers 5.5 and Pune Trumasters have logged 3.5 points.
The Round Robin League comprising of six teams will have to score heavily as Board points will be taken into consideration for the four teams to advance to the knock-out stage.
In high profile encounter against two talented GM youngsters, Vidit Gujrathi showed exemplary technique to score against higher rated fellow GM SP Sethuraman to set the ball rolling for Jalgaon Battlers. Narayan Srinath, Adhiban and Pratik Patil too scored while for Pune TruMasters’ Vishnu Prasanna and Aditya Udeshi brought home two points.
