CHANDIGARH, NOV 16 : Ishita of Punjab University Coaching Centre hit a goldmine as she won five titles in the Chandigarh State Badminton Championships at the Panjab University Indoor Badminton Hall here today.
She emerged winner in singles and doubles in under-15 and under-17 categories and doubles in under-19. She also got silver and bronze medals in under-19 singles and in women’s singles and doubles respectively. She was declared best player of the tournament.
International Oscar Bansal won the men’s singles title beating Sumit by 21-9, 21-19 where Punkaj and Ashish won the men’s doubles. Kailash claimed the women’s singles crown by beatingt Kawaljit 21-17,21-19.
Chandigarh Home Secretary Anil Kumar was the chief guest and distributed prizes. Chandigarh Badminton Association chairman M.C. Sethi, Chairman and CBA president T.P.S Puri were also present to grace the occasion. Mr Anil Kumar applauded the association’s efforts to promote badminton. He also congratulated CBA joint secretary Surinder Mahajan, who is also senior badminton coach, for organizing the championship.
