Kuala Lumpur: In the second match of the Malaysian Tour 2014, played at Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, the Indian Women Hockey team routed Malaysia by a margin of 2-0. The six match series against Malaysia is a part of the preparations for the Commonwealth Games 2014. India now leads the series 2-0.
The first goal of the match for India came in the 10th minute from the stick of Anuradha Devi as a field goal. Not much later, Poonam rani scored another brilliant field goal in the 28th minute of the game, taking the score to 2-0 for India. India upheld a lead of 2-0 when the whistle blew indicating half time. In the second half, Malaysia tried hard to strike a goal but wasn’t able to encash any opportunity. Indian Goalkeeper made four good saves in the second half of the match. No team managed to put the ball in the net during the entire second half of the match. At the end of the match the score stood at 2-0 indicating a well-deserved win for the Indian Women.
Commenting on the win captain Ritu Rani said, “It is our second consecutive win against Malaysia and the team is motivated by it. I think we should have scored more goals in this match and our defenders again played well. The confidence level of all my teammates is at all time high and we look forward to win the remaining four games with bigger margins”.
Meanwhile, India will play South Korea for ninth position in hockey World Cup at the Hague, Netherlands.
