Chandigarh, June 2 – Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda has announced Rs 21 lakh to Mamta Sodha, the Mountaineer from Kaithal district of Haryana who had scaled Mt. Everest recently. Earlier, the Chief Minister had also given her financial assistance of Rs three lakh for her expedition, as she hailed from a poor family.
Ms Sodha along with her family members met the Chief Minister at Delhi today. She was given warm welcome at Delhi Airport on her arrival by Haryana Government. Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mr Jaiveer Balmiki and senior officers of Haryana Sports Department received her at the Airport.
The Chief Minister congratulated Ms Sodha on her achievement and said that he was proud of the achievement and feat of the State daughter. She has not only won laurels for the State, but has also made the country proud, he added. The wife of Chief Minister, Mrs Asha Hooda also welcomed the Mamta and her family members.
Lok Sabha MPs Mr Avtar Singh Bhadana, Mr Arvind Sharma, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Ms Sharda Rathore were also present on the occasion.
Narrating the experience of Everest expedition, Ms Sodha told the Chief Minister that the expedition was very difficult job and she could achieve it for her mental and physical fitness. She said that she reached the top of Mt. Everest at 10.07 a.m. of May 22 and the time almost stopped for her. I believe in the God Almighty and it was like the heaven at the top, she added.
