25 July : Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly is all set to lead the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the third edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), reports have said.
Ganguly, who was replaced as the team captain by Kiwi recruit Brendon McCullum in the IPL II, will once again be seen at the helm of the KKR due to the New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman’s unavailabilty in the next season for national duties.
The second season of the IPL did not go well for the former left-hander, following his troubled relationship with John Buchanan after the coach came up with his multi-captaincy theory, further leading to Ganguly’s downfall.
It has been learnt that Sourav Ganguly and franchisee owner Shah Rukh Khan have discussed about KKR captaincy in London.Khan is also expected to make a formal announcement of Ganguly’s appointment, next month.
However, the former captain was unavailable for comment but it is believed that he would be heading the KKR team.In yet another move, former India coach John Wright is likely to replace the Australian Buchanan as the team coach.
However, Dav Whatmore, who had a successful stint with Sri Lanka and Banglandesh, is also in the race to take up the coaching role.Controversy-ridden KKR finished at the bottom of the table in IPL this season.
