Gurgaon, April 9: Feroz Singh Garewal and Shubham Narain shared the opening day’s honours as they were tied for lead in the opening round of the IGU Haryana Junior Golf Championship that teed off at the Golden Greens Golf Club here on Tuesday. The duo signed off with an identical card of level par-72 under testing course conditions.
Yuvraj Sandhu was third at 73 while the winner of the last leg Viraj Madappa was tied for the fourth place along with Kartikey Vashist at 74. Tutul Ali was sixth at 75 while Anant Singh Ahlawat and Piyush sangwan Sere tied for the eighth place at 76.
In Category B, Karan Sharma emerged the leader with a score of 73 while Jaiveer Singh was second at 76. Adilbir Singh was third was third at 78 while Sarthak Chibber, Vignesh Thakur and Arjun Prasad were all tied for the fourth place at 79.
Feroz made an ominous start making three bogeys in the first eight holes before making a birdie on the ninth. A bogey free back nine was laced with back to back birdies on the 11th and 12th which ensured that Feroz signed off with level par card.
Shubham made a similar start as his co-leader with three bogeys in the first seven holes but saved two strokes on the fifth and ninth. Shubham then made consecutive birdies on the 13th and 14th and but for the bogey on the very next hole, he could have emerged as the sole leader.
