The Epson Golf Championship was played at the Chandigarh Golf Club on 19th March with a total of 204 participants. According to Capt. GS Ghuman, Chairman Tournament Committee “the tournament was played on a stableford format with 3/4ths handicap.There were two prizes in each category, 0-8 handicap, 9-16 handicap, 17-24 handicap and Ladies category. In addition to this there was the longest drive and nearest to pin prize as well as a prize in each four ball for the one with the best score”. In the 0-8 handicap category HS Kang was declared the winner (38 points) and Bobby Sandhu the Runners-up (36 points).Brig. PPS Dhillon (37 points) won the 9-16 handicap category leaving Col. IP Singh (36 points) at the Runners-up position. The 17-24 handicap category saw Kirpal Singh (32 points) take the pole position while SS Sandhu (31 points) finished Runners-up in the same category. In the ladies category Mrs. Pauline JM Singh won with a score of 36 points and Mrs. Vijay Wadhawan finished Runners-up in the same category.
GS Harika won the Nearest-To-Pin contest hitting the ball just 5 feet 2 inches from the hole. Tej Singh Mann hit the longest drive (294 yards) in the 17-24 handicap category, Sukhjit Singh Lehal was the longest (260 yards) in the 9-16 handicap category and IPS Mann drove the longest (307 yards) in the 0-8 handicap category. 51 other prizes were given to the best scoring individual in each of the 51 four balls. President of Chandigarh Golf Club, Birinder Singh Gill gave away the prizes to the winners at a gala cocktails ceremony held at the club lawns in the evening.
