The Baisakhi Junior Golf Championship, the fifth and final tournament of the Chandigarh Golf Club “Junior Golf Mission 2016” for the year 2010 – 2011, was played by 60 juniors from all over North and Central India at the picturesque Chandigarh Golf Club on 12th April. Tarundeep Chadha of A Category emerged the overall winner of the Championship leaving behind Dhruv Kumar and Rahul Kumar at the runners-up and 2nd runners-up positions respectively. “The CGC Junior Golf Championship is the premier junior golf tournament in North India. Our mission is to provide junior boys and girls of all ages with the most competitive field and the ultimate tournament experience” said Ajay Gujral, Jt. Director of the Chandigarh Golf Club Academy.In Category B Harsh Gangwar took the winners trophy with Pukhraj Gill and Feroz Grewal at the runners-up and 2nd runners-up positions respectively. “Our mission continues to be to provide the highest quality tournament experience at the most affordable price. We welcome all junior golfers regardless of skill to join us for an event” said Birinder Singh Gill, President of Chandigarh Golf Club. Kartik Digvijay won the Category C while Karandeep Kochhar and Jaiveer Singh came runners-up and 2nd runners-up respectively in the same category. In Category D Aadil Bedi won leaving Chinmay Mahajan and Ekamveer Guron at the runners-up and 2nd runners-up positions respectively.
“Our aim is to continue having 5 junior tournaments every year till 2016 so as to produce a champion golfer from our club for the 2016 Olympic Games in which golf will be included”, said Capt. GS Ghuman, Tournament Chairman at Chandigarh Golf Club. Natasha Gill won in the girls category and Jaipreet Ghuman finished runners up in the same category. The longest drive was hit by Dhrav Sheron.
The Chandigarh Golf Club has identified 16 junior golfers from the club, four from each of the four categories who have played the best golf over the past one year in various tournaments in the country and are considered the “future of CGC” for the 2016 Olympic Games. These 16 juniors were honoured and were given Award of Excellence certificates by the President of the club BS Gill. Total four juniors, the best junior from each of the four categories (A,B,C,D), was declared the Junior Masters Champion and Awarded a Green Jacket. So a total of four Green Jackets were given out. These 16 juniors were: Tarundeep Singh Chadha, Prabhdeep Ghai, Angad Aulakh, Dhrav Sheron, Feroz Singh Grewal, Jairaj Sandhu, Pukhraj Gill, Yuvraj Sandhu, Karandeep Kochhar, Jaiveer Sandhu, Kartik Digvijay, Rohan Kathuria, Aadil Bedi, Digraj Gill, Karanveer Singha and Ekamveer Guron.
