Nagaland : The 10th C. Yanghori Sangtam Memorial Cricket Tournament 2011, organized by Tuensang District Cricket Association, started at Tuensang on 10-12-2011 under the Motto- Honour above Honours.
The programme was held in the local ground Tuensang with Press Secretary to Chief Minister Nagaland and General Secretary Nagaland Cricket Association, Abu Metha as the Chief Guest.
The Chief Guest at the outset conveyed warm greetings and wishes for success of the tournament from Chief Minister Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio and president Nagaland Cricket Association to all the Cricket lovers at Tuensang.
Delivering his speech, Metha said that sports is a multi million dollar industry and the game of cricket is an international game where one can become a professional and make a career in it. He encouraged and challenged the participants to come up to the level of national standard in cricket and play for India for which the door of opportunity and privilege is open to all the players from Nagaland like any other states. And for attending this standing only discipline and performance will judge.
He also highlighted the policies and programmes of present DAN Government under the able & dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who puts extra effort for youth initiative and youth advancement in the state. For the development of cricket in the state coaching camp will be conducted by BCCI in the state Metha stated and called on the players to avail the opportunity. He also said that for any kind of human development, peace is a prerequisite requirement and therefore called on the people to maintain peace for all round development in the state.
The Chief Guest was accompanied by Convenor Development Committee, Rehman; Nagaland Cricket Association umpire and Selection Committee, Moses; Chief Coach and Member Selection Committee, Atha; Joint Secretary NCA and president DDCA, Pihoto Awomi and Nagaland Post Kohima correspondent Xavier Rutsa
The programmme was chaired by General Secretary TDCA, L.B.USSUK, Gods blessing invoked by pastor, Phom Baptist Church Tuensang while welcome address was delivered by President TDCA, Kechingse.
The tournament is held in memory of Lt. C.Yanghori Sangtam a social worker organized by the Tuensang District Cricket association successfully over the years. Altogether 15 (fifteen) teams from Tuensang District are taking part in this year’s competition. The final match will be played on 28 Dec 2011.
