Chandigarh 12 January : The 56th National School Games that commenced 7 January, 2011 witnessed a closing ceremony on its concluding day today, after a tough six days battle among 25 States, 3 Union Territories and 4 units of School Games Federation of India, in the disciplines of Cricket U-19 (Boys), Football U-14 (Boys & Girls) and Badminton U-14, 17 & 19 (boys & Girls). DPI(S) Sh. P.K. Sharma was the Chief Guest at the ceremony organised at the Sports Complex, Sector – 42, Chandigarh.
A cultural Bonanza was presented by students of Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School, Sector – 10 through the exuberance of ‘Gidda’.
Sh. P.K. Sharma gave away the prizes and trophies and congratulated all the participants for having come this far at the National level. He applauded all the winners and the participants for their brilliant performances and also said that they were the future of India’s achievements in sports in the coming years. He congratulated the Department of Education for organizing the event and all the other Departments for providing round the clock services to the visiting teams.
Chandigarh Boys walked away with the Cricket U-19 and Football U-14 trophy with Akshay Kaushik walking away with the Man of the Match and Best all round. Maharashtra was winner in Badminton U-14 Boys and U-14 Girls. In Football U-14 Girls, Manipur gave the winning performance.
The programme was a little delayed because of the Cricket Finals which started late because of foggy and overcast weather.
