CHANDIGARH, JAN 23 : The Tribune and Danik Bhaskar stormed into the final of the Inter- Media Cricket Tournament being organized by Chandigarh Press Club played at the Government Senior Secondary School ground in Sector 26 here today. The winners recorded fluent victories over their respective rivals in the semi-final matches.
While The Tribune handed out a 10-wicket thrashing to Danik Jagran, Danik Bhaskar thrashed The Indian Express by nine wickets.
After winning the toss, Danik Jagran decided to bat first, They were skittled out for 83 in 18.4 overs. Only Sandeep and Naresh were their main scorers. After their exit, their innings fell apart like nine pins. Sandeep and Naresh were associated in a 52-run partnership for the first wicket. After this partnership was broken, it was back to the pavillon for the Danik Jagran batsmen.
Sanjay Kalia (2 for 12), Vijay (2 for 15) and Vaibhav (2 for 8) were the wrecker-in-chiefs of the Danik Jagran’s innings.
Chasing a victory target of 84, The Trinune achieved it in 12.4 overs without losing even a single wicket. Vikrant and Rohit remained not out on 36 and 38, respectively. Vikrant hit five fours.
In the second semi-final, Danik Bhaskar won the toss but decided to bat first. Put in to bat, The Indian Express were bundled out for 64 in 13 overs. Jaipal (17) and Chander Shekar (13) were their main scorers. The Danik Bhaskar bowler who broke the backbone of The Indian Express was Hemant who in an inspiring spell too four wickets for 11 runs. Agile Danik Bhaskar wicketkeeper Umesh Sharma took four brilliant catches.
In reply, propped up by a 22-ball unbeaten knock of 30 by Om Parkash, Danik Bhaskar scored 65 for 1 in 8 overs. Om Parkash’s knock contained four boundaries. Hemant remained not out on 13.
