By Jagpreet Sandhu ,Chandigarh, December 31 : Taranbir Singh Oberio, a class twelve student of The Banyan Tree School, Sector 48, won laurels in England by winning a number of tennis titles in 2011. He has been adjudged the Player of the Year Award by Lawn Tennis Association, London.
This prestigious award was bestowed upon him due to his outstanding performance of Taranbir Singh. The young Chandigarh lad won five consecutive singles and doubles titles. The LTA has awarded his excellence by giving him a certificate and a gold medal.
Presenting medals and prize in recognition of Taranbir’s achievements. The LTA said “this is first year we have introduced leaderboards and in some cases finals, in grades 2,3,4 and 5 competitions. These improvements have been made to help players of all levels achieve and be rewarded for their success.”
The budding Taranbir Singh, who trains under Janmeet Singh, has been playing tennis for the last seven years. Taranbir Singh aims to turn professional player at an appropriate time. “I am working hard in this direction”, he said .
Banyan Tree School Director Mr. Ravinder Talwar, who is also general secretary of the Chandigarh Olympic Association, praised Taranbir Singh for his achievement in London and wished him good luck.
