CHANDIGARH, JAN 25 : St Stephen’s School of Sector 45 won the Tata Tea Jaago Re Soccer Stars ’09 "Go to Arsenal", Chandigarh leg, today by defeating St Soldier’s International School, Sector 28 by 2-0 in the final played at the Sector 17 Football Stadium here today.
Sonu Majhi and Navin Roshan Tete scored one goal each to fashion Stephen’s victory.In the semi-final match, St Stephen’s School beat Shishu Niketan by 2-0 in the tie-breaker after a goalless draw in the regulation period. Golmei Mariamdrum and Umakanta S Kiyam converted their penalties for Stephen’s School.
St Soldier’s International School defeated DAV School, Sector 8 by 2-0.
Mao Shinga of SD Public High School, Sector 32 was declared the most valuable player of the tournament. Dhaneshwar (St Stephen’s) and Ashdeep (St Solider’s) wer adjudged the best goalkeeper and the highest goal scorer.
Golmei Mariamdrum (Stephen’s), Samandram Lawamg (Stephen’s), Amandeep Singh Gill (Stephen’s) and Umakanta Kiyam (Stephen’s) have been selected for coaching camp in Kolkata in May.
Indian defender Anwar Ali of Jagatjit Cotton Textile Mills was the chief guest and distributed the prizes.
