PASIGHAT, Nov 17: The District Panchayat Yuva Krida Khel Abhiyan committee (PYKKA) conducted various sports activities including shot-put, Discus-throw, Javelin-throw, long-jump, long-races etc for both boys and girls in all 13 Blocks of East Siang during the last two weeks of November to usher in sporting culture. These were conducted by four individual Block Coordinators led by DSO (Sports) Gumnya Karbak, Obang Minki (FAO), Onya Padung (PET) and Tadang Tamuk.
Later, two days district level competitions were held at the IGJ ground, Pasighat which concluded here on Thursday. The ZPM (Bogong) Okom Yosung graced the valedictory function as Chief Guest amidst participants and fanfares. Yosung congratulated Coordinator Mingki for timely completion the final event successfully in absence of DSO. He also called upon the youths to participate in different sports activities to earn their names in state, national and international level competitions.
Renowned footballer Tamat Gamoh who represented the state in National Games in 1985 and also participated in Santosh Trophy 1993 attended the function as Guest of Honour. In his deliberation Gamoh said sport is also an integral component of education and human personality development. Severe inadequacy of sports infrastructure and community coaching facilities are the constraints for promotion and development of sports activities in the district, he stated.
Earlier, Coordinator Mingki in his turn advised to adopt sports as hot career and wished for reservation in jobs quota for sports personalities. He admitted the need of adequate funds and sports equipments and infrastructure facilities in the district to attract the youths. It plays a vital role for the overall physical development but the youths do not engage themselves in sport due to various societal as well as parental problems. Sports activities in the district are yet to be flourished cognizing awareness campaigns, added Mingki.
