CHANDIGARH, NOV 7 : Punjab men and women hogged limelight on the opening day of the 6th Senior North Zone Softball Championship (Men and Women) being organized by Chandigarh Amateur Softball Association at Government Model Senior Secondary School ground in Sector 23 here today.
The Punjab men’s team recorded two victories by beating Delhi with a 6-3 margin in their opening league fixture. In their second outing they accounted for Himachal Pradesh by 7-3. Hosts Chandigarh just managed to prevail over Jammu and Kashmir by 4-3. Jammu and Kashmir suffered their second defeat as they were beaten by Haryana by 2-0.
In the women’s section, Punjab toyed with Haryana as they registered a fluent 10-0 verdict. The Punjab women routed Jammu and Kashmir by an identical 10-0 margin in their second leauge fixture. The Delhi-Himachal Pradesh outing was a close affair with the latter winning by a narrow 3-2 margin.
Earlier, Haryana Additional Chief Secretary SS Dhillon inaugurated the competitions in which 250 players from Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand and J&K are participating

Women: J&K bt Haryans 8-6, HP bt Delhi 3-2, Punjab bt Haryana 10-0, Chandigarh bt HP 5-3, Punjab bt J&K 10-0, Delhi bt Chandigarh 11-4.
