Pargat Singh, born on March 5, 1965, was the brain behind the bringing the Punjab Gold Cup Four-National Invitational Hockey Tournament conducted by the Punjab Government in Chandigarh in January 31-Feb 9 this year, under the patronage of Punjab Deputy Chief Minister and Sports Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal. By organising the first-ever FIH sanctioned four-nation invitation tournament, featuring Germany, Holland, New Zealand and India, lot of enthusiasm has been generated to promote hockey, the national game, in the country. The Punjab Government has got appreciation from the bigwigs of international hockey.
When informed about his appointment on the FIH Hockey Rules Board, Pargat Singh was modest by saying "efforts would be made to make hockey spectators friendly so that general public could understand and appreicate the game well.I will sincerely discharge my duties assigned to me as a member of the rules board." India’s Flag Bearer in 1996 Atlanta Olympics, Pargat Singh has also served on the FIH Athletes Panel from 1998-2002.
Aslam Khan (FIH Equipment Committee), S Thyagarajan (FIH Communications & Information Technology Committee) and International grade I Shakeel (FIH Umpiring Committee) are the other three Indians on the FIH panels.
